Golfers Are Appealing the Collar Shirt Requirement
You knew this day would come. The younger generation of golfers is challenging the rules set in place that require button up shirts with collars. These T-shirts have been a type of trade mark for golfers over the years and the older golfers prefer to hold to tradition. The newcomers say that for the comfort factor alone they should be able to wear extra large T-Shirts on the course.
The argument for the xl tees is that they are far more comfortable. They say the big size tshirts allow you to get more from your shoulder turn because you are not constricted by your clothing. They have also claimed that wearing the plus size tee-shirts will also make the golfers much cooler on the course as it will allow them to wear a more breathable material and the shirts won't cling to them when they are sweating in 95 degree weather.
Those that oppose the change are worried that wearing these shirts on the course will be a distraction to the game. They state that the next thing you know there will be golfers wearing funny t-shirts and have the galleries hooting and laughing. The newbies are thinking that humorous tee shirts might just lighten up the atmosphere at these tournaments.
Then the whole thing turned toward money. The traditionalist thought that money would get involved and the next thing you know you have golfers advertising the fact that I design my own teeshirts. This could lead to infringement rights with advertisers. Then you will have the fans trying to collect the cool tshirts and vintage tees will be highly sought after.
When the meeting final adjourned there was a general consensus about the next step. Many felt like the large size tshirts should be given a chance. They would make the player more comfortable, they could help them remain cooler while on the course and everyone is sure there is money to be made somewhere. So they voted to allow certain venues to give it a try with the promise that if things got out of hand that the big size tee shirts would be banned and the collar shirt requirement would be reinstated.
With this announcement country clubs everywhere began allowing golfers to come out in more comfortable attire. So far the response has been mixed it seems that many still love the tradition but there is a large following that believes that extra large tees are the future for golf.
